Every company on the Wintercircus Startup Campus earns its place the same way: by tackling a problem that's worth solving. Some even build tech with a direct societal impact. From the operating table to the power grid to the pipes beneath your street, here's how Campus startups turn ambition into something that counts.
Healthcare is straining at the seams: ageing populations, packed waiting rooms, staff stretched thin. The sooner and more precisely we can read what’s happening inside a patient, the better the odds. These Campus startups turn a flood of medical data into clarity that changes outcomes.
Nuclivision works right at the start of the journey: the scan. Nuclear imaging is one of the best ways to catch cancer or Alzheimer’s early, yet it’s costly, slow and demanding on the body. Nuclivision’s deep-learning software lets hospitals scan with less radioactive tracer while keeping the image just as sharp. The result is imaging that’s safer, faster and cheaper, and, as CEO Maarten Larmuseau puts it, without detecting a single tumour less.
IntelliProve takes diagnostics out of the clinic. Point a regular smartphone camera at someone’s face, and within seconds its software reads vital signs like heart rate, breathing and stress from tiny colour changes in the skin. Built with partners like the Wit-Gele Kruis, it gives nurses time back and brings prevention within everyone’s reach.
PointCaré steps in at the sharpest end of medicine: the operating room and the ICU. Its platform, OnTarget, gathers the data streams from all those beeping machines in real time and turns them into clear, patient-specific advice, showing its reasoning instead of hiding in a black box. As founder Henri Van Overmeire puts it, data alone doesn’t save lives. Acting on it at the right moment does.

Doctors didn’t sign up to be typists. Yet they lose a huge slice of every week to admin instead of patients, just as waiting lists keep growing. Two Campus startups are handing that time back, each from a different corner of the system.
Cavell, founded in the Wintercircus by neurologist Pieter Olivier alongside Anthony Rathé and Louis Verdonckt, built an AI assistant that simply listens. During a consultation, an operation or a nurse’s round, it captures the conversation and turns it into a structured, coded report that lands straight in the patient file. Doctors save up to a fifth of their time, and hospitals like AZ Sint-Lucas and AZ Oostende already use it.
Squire comes at the same problem from another angle: the software itself. Its AI plugs straight into the existing software that healthcare professionals of all kinds already use, and is up and running in about a day. It can talk with patients to gather information for the doctor, let home nurses dictate to their software from the car, or turn a spoken consultation into a finished report, no typing involved. Co-founders Stan Callewaert and Ignace Maes have one aim: take the admin off care workers' plates, wherever they work.

We’re adding solar panels and electric cars faster than the grid was ever built to handle. The result is congestion, waste, and a transition at risk of stalling. These Campus startups keep it moving, turning scattered, small-scale power into something the whole system can lean on.
Powernaut helps get more clean energy onto the grid, and keep it there. Today, most energy companies juggle their solar, wind and batteries across separate systems that barely talk to each other, which wastes power and slows the whole transition down. Powernaut pulls it all into one place, so every bit of green energy gets used, traded and accounted for from the same screen. Less waste, more renewables on the grid, a transition that keeps moving.
We Drive Solar wants your car to give something back. Its bidirectional charging tech lets electric vehicles not only charge but also feed power back to the grid, turning a parked car into a battery for the whole neighbourhood. The company built Europe’s first bidirectional charger back in 2019 and helped make Utrecht the world’s first bidirectional region. Proof that the energy system of tomorrow is already being tested today.

Few things are as easy to take for granted as water. It flows the moment we turn the tap, it keeps our cities and industries running, and most of the time we never give it a second thought, until something goes wrong. Meet the Campus startups who make sure that moment comes as rarely as possible.
AM-Team builds detailed computer models of the water installations that cities depend on. By running a plant virtually, engineers can fine-tune how it treats water, catch problems before they happen, and cut both energy use and emissions along the way. From Los Angeles to Amsterdam, AM-Team helps utilities get more out of their water systems while putting less strain on the planet.
Fiberflux tackles a quieter problem: the water we lose before it ever reaches the tap. Its fibre-optic system monitors pipelines around the clock, pinpointing leaks down to the metre. For utilities, that means less wasted drinking water, fewer costly bursts, and a faster fix the moment a leak appears.

Nine startups, one shared instinct: setting out to solve a real problem, and ending up making life a little safer, cleaner and healthier for all of us.
